Senior Project Accountant

One of Lightower Fiber Network’s sites, located in Boxborough, MA is seeking an experienced Senior Project Accountant. 

Job Description 

The Project Analyst / Accountant is responsible for performing account reconciliations over capital accounts, performing inventory, WIP and PP&E analysis related to all new and ongoing project assignments and assisting in monthly p&l cost center reviews.  The Project Analyst supports the Senior Financial Analyst in a cross-departmental capacity. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Participates in and implements accounting related project management
  • Assists the finance and operations management in various customer funded and company funded projects
  • Reports to Operations Project Managers overall project costs as they relate to budgeted amounts and their impact on project profitability and overall cash flow
  • Examine costs to establish agreement with the contract, policy, etc.
  • Understands the general ledger and generates month and quarter end entries
  • Prepare month end journal entries as it relates to project accounting
  • Maintain project details, issue lists, testing and documentation for formal meetings to report to and update project management
  • Maintain complete project files inclusive of vendor history for review by external audit and internal controls
  • Great attention to detail, ability to multi-task and must have good organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of process flows and internal controls
  • Interface with corporate accounting staff, accounts payable department and shipping / receiving department
  • Assist in coordinating year-end inventory count

Job Knowledge:

Required:  

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge and experience of financial systems, Microsoft Dynamics (Solomon, Great Plains or Navision preferred)

Desired:

  • Working knowledge of Solomon software preferred

Job Experience:

Required:
 
  • Performed the responsibilities of a month-end close process
  • Four years of prior experience in inventory and project accounting
  • Should possess self-management skills and ability to work with limited supervision
  • Fixed Asset, WIP or Project sub ledger experience

    • Desired:

    • Public Accounting experience (preferably Big 4 or large regional)
    • Prior experience in Telecom or construction
    • Experience  working  across multi-functional groups within an organization

    Education:

    Required:

    • B.S. in Accounting or another business discipline.

    Desired:

    • CPA a plus

    Computer Skills:

    • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word , PowerPoint and Outlook skills
